What should I do before I give away, sell or dispose of my old iPhone or iPad?

All of your information needs to be securely removed from iPhones and iPads before you part with them, even if they are being recycled. It's very important to do this correctly.  Don't try to do it by deleting items one by one.  Instead, follow Apple's instructions. If you are in any doubt, please seek advice from a trusted expert or from Apple Accessibility Support on 0800 0480754 in the UK if you prefer assistance from someone who understands accessibility options you use. It's usually a very simple job. First you need to be sure that you have a backup of the device. Then you need to sign out at the end of  Settings / your name. Then find the transfer or reset option at the end of Settings / General and use it to erase all content and settings. (This is slightly different in older versions of iOS and iPadOS). Check that the device has been removed from the list of devices in Settings / your name.  Always be sure to check Apple's instructions to ensure that your specific case doesn't require additional steps.
