An iPad user with sight loss who is not already familiar with VoiceOver or Zoom may need help in order to set up some of the features described in these notes. Setup instructions are provided in the relevant sections.
These pages are currently tested on a 10th generation iPad. Everything should be very similar on other iPad models running the current version of iPadOS. Note that some iPad models have Home buttons and use fingerprints for security (TouchID). Other models have no Home button and use face recognition (FaceID). Some iPads have no Home button and use TouchID on the top button. Where relevant, I distinguish between these types of iPad. Sorry if this makes some areas a little confusing. Although iPads and iPhones operate very similarly, differences may confuse new users so I have produced separate notes for iPad and iPhone where the differences are significant. In September 2019, Apple replaced iOS for iPads with an operating system that is specific to iPads called iPadOS. iOS is now designed for iPhones only. The main differences are in advanced iPad features which are not covered on this website. However there are some differences in app layout between iPad and iPad Pro models. I don't have an iPad Pro and probably won't find the time to work on one to ensure that the notes cover iPad Pro models correctly. Please let me know if any areas of the site cause significant confusion for iPad Pro users and I'll try to fix it with your help.
