An iPhone user with sight loss who is not already familiar with VoiceOver or Zoom may need help in order to set up some of the features described in these notes. Setup instructions are given in the relevant sections.
These pages are currently tested on an iPhone 15 Pro. Everything should be very similar on other iPhone models running the current version of iOS. But note that all iPhone X , iPhone 11 and later models have no home button. Some readers will be using earlier iPhones or any iPhone SE, which all have a circular home button at the bottom of the screen. This website covers both iPhones with and without home buttons. I use the same convention as Apple and describe iPhone models which do not have a Home button as devices with FaceID. Sorry if this makes some areas a little confusing. The only iPhone currently sold by Apple which has a home button is the venerable iPhone SE, launched in 2022 and no new devices with home buttons are anticipated.
Although iPads and iPhones operate very similarly, differences may confuse new users so I have produced separate notes for iPad and iPhone. Prior to September 2019, both iPhones and iPads used the same operating system, iOS. With the release of version 13, iPhones now run iOS and iPads run iPadOS. The systems remain very similar; the main differences are in additional iPad facilities which I mostly don't cover yet on this website.
